shortbed mounts/bed-frame gap

I'm looking for pictures that show the gap between the bed crossmembers and the top of the frame right above the axle on a shortbed without a body lift or anything- just stock.

If someone has this measurement, that would also be great.

Thanks.

Re: shortbed mounts/bed-frame gap

ofcourse, usually I can answer my own question but only after I post.

Looks like from this hotrod article-
http://www.hotrod.com/articles/low-b...c10-lowering-2

the cross sills lay directly on top the frame.

can someone please confirm this is all years of the square?

Thanks.

Re: shortbed mounts/bed-frame gap

i have a k30 long bed i am building now . i can confirm this . 80's bed and frame

as my custom made gooseneck hitch is JUST kissing the 1 crossmember rail and i had to do a THICK washer body lift on the truck or take the time to relive the whole crossmember .

Re: shortbed mounts/bed-frame gap

is there a crossmember directly above the rear wheel center line?

This bed flood doesnt have one...but the one above looks like it does? I'll check my bed later but I'm still curious now. lol.

I too am trying to build some brackets for a gooseneck, and some other things.

Re: shortbed mounts/bed-frame gap

I will go look at mine.
I think it is directly inline with axles.
It does sit directly on the frame with no gap I can tell you that.
Let you know in a few.

Re: shortbed mounts/bed-frame gap

my shortbed does not. I have a 4" hole there for the gooseneck hitch.

Re: shortbed mounts/bed-frame gap

My 1974 K10 short bed with no body lift and (what appears to be ) stock rear springs / The middle rib is sitting directly on the frame. The position of the center of the middle rib to the axle is Approximately 1 inch in front of the center line of the axle shaft.

Re: shortbed mounts/bed-frame gap

so this is interesting.

It appears some shortbed have the center rib and some do not.

So far-

1973- has it
1974- has it
1980- has it (from hot rod article)
1983- does not

v30crewcab- do you know the year of your bed(floor)? -thanks sir.

I can check my short bed and see. Although I don't know the bed floor year as I bought the bed floor loose.

Based on BWs installations- they assume no center rib is present or their kit will not fit- without removing that center rib.

looks identical to mine, unknown year. Has the crossmember in the middle.

Getting a goose under there is going to be tough.

Re: shortbed mounts/bed-frame gap

hit this guy up on a SUPER BUILT gooseneck unit for better than b&w hitch price .

www.diy4x.com . have to ask him for one . not a std stocked / made item .

its a whole extra massive cross member in the frame .

Re: shortbed mounts/bed-frame gap

I appreciate the referral, I've seen those before- they look awesome.

I'm actually going a different route. Designing basically front and rear 'lift members' for the stock frame.

Front is mostly designed/fabricated, working on the rear now. Got a ways to go on the frame brackets above the rear axle. Using a BW turn over hitch that came from my 2014 dmax donor.
