Emissions question on 87
I am in the process of putting a new engine in my 87. I am about ready to set the engine in, but have found that my AIR pump is locked up. It had a belt on it, but it is tight! My question is, how important is it to emissions. There is no hose or tube going from it to the cat, so I am sure it is not working now. Can I eliminate all of the hoses and such, then plug the holes in the exhaust manifold? I do have to pass smog, but I don't want to have find a bunch of obsolete crap, either. IIRC, the air pump does not work after the truck is warmed up, correct. If that is the case, it should not effect emissions as the truck is moving, as we have to do a dyno test for emissions. Any advice would be appreciated.

My smog pump is not hooked up. No belt and no tubed going to the cats. I pass emmissions with flying colors and we do the dyno test too here in Georgia. Here in Georgia, they look for cats, pressure test the fuel cap, and run it on the dyno for about 5-7 minutes.

Cool. I think I may just take all of it off. I was thinking if it looked like it was never there, it might fly.
