Well, what do you think? I'm making progress. One thing is for sure, making the brackets is a *****. I've got the ones on the drivers side done, just need to get them painted. Here is a test fit of everything. Now on to the passenger side.

Eric, too much work in it for me to make them to sell. I will have some templets for everything though so you can make your own.

I cut everything with a 4-1/2" side grinder with a cutoff wheel, or make that several cutoff wheels. I dirlled all the bolt holes on my drill press. The big holes I had a machine shop cut for me with a plasma cutter. The round outside brackets I used a cutting torch to make.

Being I designed my own brackets, everything was cut and test fit. I used 5 or 6 cardboard templets in the process.

i have a friend that may beable to cut them for me. he works on the local air force base doing metal work. mostly with alum.

Looks Great! I would love to get a template. My grandpa has a cutting torch so this isn't a problem. What discs and calipers did you end up using?

Do you have a pic from the front or rear? I have a dana60 in my 67 firebird and I want to add rear disc using the c4 style calipers.

instead of making the brackets yourself, have you thought about checking stock car products, coleman racing, afco and the likes? Most of them sell weld on axle brackets for popular GM, GN 3,5" and GT 5,25" mount calipers.

I "really" like those brackets. I'm a machinist and can appreciate the planning and work that went into them. Hope you are going to make a drawing of them to post on your site.
4 wheel discs with the correct braking balance is going to be something that every pickup owner will want. Keep the pics and progress coming.

damn, i wish i had half the talent and patience that you have Mike. although, working in the RV industry, there are lots of little things that nobody stocks parts for, so my fabricator side is slowly being developed. i just threw down the 86.00 for a set for my 14FF, and called it done. they're still hanging on my garage wall...

Thanks everyone. It sure is fun doing stuff like this even if it is a lot of hard work. I for one love the satisfaction of doing things like this instead of just buying a kit and bolting everything on. Besides, all the kits I've seen for our trucks had some whimpy brackets and only used three bolts to hold them on. I don't think mine are going anywhere.

I just got done with the passenger side 45 minutes ago. Everything bolts up and work flawlessly. Now I have to weld on the brake line mounting tab to the axle, cut the line and reflare it. I'm using some stainless flexible hose from there to the calipers. I think the parking brake cable is going to be a perfect fit. I bought an extension kit for them but I don't believe I'll need it. After all the fabricating and fitting, I'll pull everything back off, clean it up real good and give it a couple coats of paint before reassembly. Then I'll need to adjust the parking brake and cables, and bleed the brakes.

I hope to be done with everything this weekend. I can't wait to see how it does.

I plan on writing an article for Jeff to put on 73-87.com I'll have plenty of pics, templets, and most of all advice on things.

Oh, and the fingers are doing a ton better. I started occupational therapy Wednesday. I'm going every other day for an hour. Still can't make a fist but it's getting closer every day. I think me doing these brakes are helping to loosen them up some. That's what I tell my wife anyway. I had to make up some lie to keep her off my back.
