changing pic size

i scanned some pics to try and see how it would work and i cant post one on here,said it was too big of a file....how do you make it smaller without messing up the pic?

I open the pic in paint, go to 'Image', then 'Stretch/Skew' and drop the %. Usually I start with 50% and go from there. Make sure you save it as a jpg.
Try that, let me know if you have any other problems.

But wont the pic get smaller as file gets smaller you end up with1.5'x1.5" pic

download irfanview that will shrink file size not pic size. download and i will walk you thru it.

That truck looks like its pretty straight, not much rust either.

71....thanks....ive been working on it on and off for about 2 years....thar pic was taken a while back....i have since replaced the rockers on both sides and gotten it ready to paint,which i plan on doing in about 2 weeks...i have some before and during pics and as soon as i get it back together will have the afters...

The above picture was 450000 bytes shrunk file size to 40000 bytes with irfanview.

1. install Irfanview 2. open pic 3. click on image button 3. click on resize/resample 4. click on 640 x 480 in upper right 5. bottom right click on resample 6. click on hermite filter 7. click OK 8.save as jPEG file, save quality around 50 save in a place you can find it.right and check properties should be around 50kb

If it is fairly new, your computer may also have a program called Microsoft Photo Editor on it. I discovered it by accident (used to use Paint) and it is very easy to resize pictures with it. If you save the resized picture with a new name you can preserve the original image.

thing you guys need to realize that even if you make the image smaller you're not going to get a small enough pic if the resolution is set to 300 dpi or higher .
sure you shouldn't post anything bigger than 300 or so PIXELS wide but it should also be 72 DPI. i only use photoshop so i can't tell you how to change this is the free paint programs but in photoshop it's under image/image size.
