how the F#$@ do u get the ingnition switch

hey guys do any of u know how 2 get the coupling peice on the ignition inside the cab off so i can take it out and replace it?????

Are you talking about the inner piece of the ignition switch? If that is what your talking about. I think you put the key in and turn to ACC. Then stick a paperclip or equivelent inside the little whole next to the key. Should be able to wiggle it out. It's been a long time since I changed one, but I think that is how it goes. Anyone else know for sure.

Sorry my bad. You have to remove what they call the Bezel. It's normally the chrome piece that surrounds the ignition cylinder. Mine was a biatch! Since it wasn't in good shape, I took a flat tip screwdriver and a small hammer to it. On my 70, there are two slots across from each other, I just started tapping in a counter clockwise direction and it finally came loose. Hope this helps, don't have the truck here so I can't really give you a picture. Good luck.

It won't come off all the way with the lock cylinder in there. The only way it will is if you rip the stainless face off the lock cylinder first, then the bezel will unscrew.

the best way to do it with out a key is just take you a dent puller and screw it in the key slot and you know the rest have fun

The best way is as Jeepster said. You need to remove the chrome/stainless piece that covers the key cylinder. This can usually be popped off with a screwdriver. Then the bezel will unscrew the rest of the way. This does usually destroy the cover but it is better than using the dent puller approach and possibly damaging the dash area.
