New Member, '69 Stepside

Hello,

I'm new to the forum, but not new to building and restoring classic vehicles.

I certainly don't know everything about it all, but seem to have a pretty good handle on the basics.

Anyway, I picked this one up yesterday afternoon, and am looking forward to restoring it.

This '69 came from the original family, with the original protecto plate, the original operators manual, as well as the paperwork from the salesman who sold the truck.

Crazy that it's 99% rust free! Rockers are clean, cab corners are spotless, as well as the floor boards. There is a small spot on each door near the bottom. The drip rails are good as is the cowl, and all areas around the windshield, the large rear window, all areas around the steps, as well as under all the fenders.

Not many options on the truck, but it does have it's original 307 V8 with the 4 speed granny low transmission. Limited slip 12 bolt rear. All original body and in very good condition.

Plans are that I will most likely put a front axle under it to make it a 4WD.

Looking forward to working on this, but I must first finish the '63 Corvette I'm in the middle of.

Is the 307 the same small block as the 327, or 350? I know it's pretty low on performance, but if the block's are pretty much the same, I could change the crank, rods, and heads to possibly "perk" it up a bit??

The 307 was a factory stroker motor.283 block 327 crank. Most people dont like them but mine in my 71 super runs great. 120000 miles ,no smoking or anything like that. My orioginal 350 dropped a valve at 370000 miles and messed up one piston and head.307 was all I had at the time to put in.Camel hump heads,350 stock cam and it runs better than my high mile 350 did.If you dont want it call me and I will come and get it!!!!

Nice stepper. I have a 69 as well and am trying to work on it and my 64 vette simultaneously so I know where you are coming from!

I’ve built 427 big block for both now it’s trying to find time for swaps.

Pat: I love your find! But I have a question...are the side mirrors stock for a 69? I have yet to pick side mirrors for my 72 build and really like the looks of those. LMC seems to only offer the round or rectangular flyswatters for the 67-9 models.

The side mirrors are not original. The guy I purchased the truck from said the original full side mirrors where removed long ago.

I looked for a logo, or some sort of identification marking, and have yet to find anything.
