76 short bed

Ok so I am trying to find out some correct info. I am going to swap from a stepside to a fleetside. I was told that I need to find a bed from a 73-78 bed. But I was reading that the main difference between a 78-79 is the 79 has a gas door? So is the mounting of the bed the same cause I can deal with a fuel door. If that’s the difference

Yes I'm pretty sure any 73-87 bed should work for you. Fuel door is the only change I think. Also just be sure to find a bed that has the gas cap/door for the correct side for your truck.
