SB rim sizes

So, this isn't my first rodeo but, the problem I have is, I don't have the truck to measure and see how much meat I can fit into the wheel wells.

I have also looked at about 20 different threads on the topic without definitive answers.

I am in Hawaii and picked up a truck in Cali (no rust, and cheaper than I can find here). The truck is on the way here but, want to order some wheels. I would like to run 20x8.5 up front and 22x11 in the rear but... I am worried about backspacing and tuck-ability. - and how it will look.

Its an 85 c10, and it already has spindle/spring drop up front and just a flip kit in the rear. its running on rallys right now.... see pic

20x8.5 up front shouldn't be an issue based on threads, with 4.5" BS

Whats the most rim/tire I can run in the rear? without raising the inner fender or narrowing the rear?

I may bag it later but, I will deal with all the saws-all drama when that time comes.

Re: SB rim sizes

Wow, really> Nothing... the 67-72 side of the house would have beat me up for asking the question then, would have give me some advice. Oh well... guess I will have to wait another two weeks till it gets to Hawaii and measure for myself. Mahalo!

Re: SB rim sizes

Well i'm no expert, but from all the wheel & tire threads I have read, I haven't even seen any running a 22x11. That sounds too big. I've seen a lot of people running 20x10 in the rear.

Re: SB rim sizes

20x8.5 (5"-5.25" BS)
20x10 (5.5" BS)
22x11 (6.5" BS)

But personally,... I would measure for wheels yourself.
Remember advertised width is from the bead surfaces.
So overall width will be 1" wider.

Re: SB rim sizes

Thanks, I totally agree, 11" may be a bit ambitious without at least mini-tubbing the rear. I just want a little taller wheel in the back. would a 22x10 clear with 5.5" of BS? I am sure it is also dependent on the tire size as well. I had 20x10 all around on my 67 and the back rubbed a little. Had to and 2" to the rear tub and take out the inner fenders up front too. I dont want to go there with my 85 but, I want as much rim as I can get.

Has anyone had any experience with online rim suppliers? anyone better than the other? Shipping is usually what kills me going to Hawaii.

20x10 or 22x10 will work fine with a 5.5" backspace.
(assuming the origin rear axle is in the truck and not something swapped in that's wider)
Overall tire height will depend on the tire size you try to use.

It's hard to compare what you did with your 67 truck,... without know which width rearend was under the truck (67-69 or 70-72) and what backspace the 20 x10 wheels were.
You have to compare apples to apples.
And in this case,... we are talking 73-87 trucks with a fleetside bed.
(not stepside)

Look at board vendors for a good source for wheels.
Like Pro Performance out of Arizona,...

Kieth, ya bro, I wasn't comparing with my 67, just made the statement I didn't want to go through what I did to "make" rims fit it" I want to get the right wheels/back spacing the first time. I had to run spacers in the rear of the 67 too... damn short width 67... anyway... thanks.

Thanks for the heads up on Pro Performance. Their price on US Mags wheels were pretty high compared to most I have found so far. I am still shopping though.

The ship my truck is on arrives here on Monday the 15th... Cant wait!
