Shipping a Tailgate question
I might be buying an NOS tailgate to flip. The seller wants to use high density foam cardboard and banding. Who knows anything about this material and it’s ability to protect the gate? Is there various thicknesses that work?

Re: Shipping a Tailgate question
I protested and asked if he would wood crate it. He stated the material he uses is as strong as wood and lighter.

Re: Shipping a Tailgate question
My NOS tailgate was shipped in the original cardboard with bands packaging. Was shipped from Kansas to Atlanta GA. No problems.
One word of advice DO NOT SHIP UPS! I've had numerous packages and parts destroyed by them. This was the latest package delivered by UPS. It had been crushed, bent in half and ripped open and not retaped.

Re: Shipping a Tailgate question
Spend the extra money to package it correctly. I would have it shipped in a wooden crate. It's too valuable to risk. Fastenal had done a great job of shipping tailgates for me.

Re: Shipping a Tailgate question
if your just flipping it why ship it all the way to Green Bay when you could just ship directly to the new buyer from the seller . You loose $ by shipping it all over the place along with accidental damage .

Re: Shipping a Tailgate question
I have been watching for a GMC gate for quite awhile, a board member turned me onto one a few states away. The seller was great, he did his best to pack it, but it got heavily damaged.
It needs to be crated, end of story. Still watching for a GMC gate, sigh. |

Re: Shipping a Tailgate question
Unless you like repairing dents, go for wood crating.
I learned this the hard way....... Later, when a fellow board member needed something shipped to him in a crate, I built MOAC (Mother of All Crates). |

Re: Shipping a Tailgate question
How both crates looked when done.
*Handles meant for moving around my house, those were removed when shipper arrived. |

Re: Shipping a Tailgate question
Members here have shipped tailgates with high density foam and cardboard and have reported it works very well. If you search the threads can probably be found.
