Length of a short bed frame?

Trying to figure out how I'm going to get a short bed frame to the blasters. Anyone ever put one in the back of a long bed truck, or am I going to need a trailer?

I’ve put them in the back of a long bed truck before.

Nice, do you remember how far it stuck out? I can red flag the rails, I just don't want to be ticketed for too long of a load

Re: Length of a short bed frame?

It will stick out a LOT...I would recommend a trailer. We put one in the back of my long bed and decided it wasn’t worth risking a ticket.

Or worth risking some fool not paying attention and running into it.

Re: Length of a short bed frame?

It did stick out a lot. It was flagged and palleted. I had no issues. Even got followed by a cop for a bit.

That being said, I didn’t have a car trailer then. So it was my only option. Now a days I have a trailer so that’s what I would use.

Re: Length of a short bed frame?

Can you turn it into a trailer?

Add a temporary tongue and coupler across the front; leave the rear so that it can roll; add some temporary tail lamps that you can easily strip off it once you get there.

FWIW - I've had some fool not pay attention and run over the top of my (empty) car trailer, too.

Re: Length of a short bed frame?

SWB frame is 178.5" end-to-end. LWB bed is 120.3/8" with the tailgate down. You ask a lot of engineers and they'll say "75% supported".....A long bed isn't there.

Unless you strapped it down real good, there's no transporting that frame in a long bed, and I wouldn't even try it. I'm having mine powder coated soon and in the same boat. I'll use a trailer.

Cool idea. I won't do that, but I am looking for a way to move the frame around. These have my attention: http://shop.servicecaster.com/5-Cast...b-121315-m.htm
