Driveshaft clearance at trailing arm cross member - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Does anyone know the drive shaft clearance for the various trailing arm crossmembers. Specifically I'm looking for the value from the top of the frame to the top of the hoop for the driveshaft. If I put a straight edge across the frame at the rear of the stock cross member and measure to the top of the drive shaft hoop, it comes in at about 3/4". Just curious if anyone had other measurements of Porterbuilt, ECE, CPP, etc. which are intended to be used with drops. My trans sits a little high in the back so I need the most clearance possible. Just didn't know if I could get away with buying one or having to modify the stock one.

You wont gain a whole lot of clerance maybe 1/2" the looks are deciving. The aftermarket members are straight across the top wich makes the loop look taller than it is. With that said they are alot stronger. I have the cpp. I wish i would have went ece. The ece has bolt on brackets so they can be flipped if you want to change anti squat. Cpp is welded in the flipped position so there is no choice. Also as much as i wanted to run the exhaust through the member the ovals were just not big enough for the 3" pipe. Ece are round

The Porterbuilt cross member does give 3/4" more clearance for the driveshaft to come up.
