GMC build "Burr"
Been on the hunt for a long time 3-4 years. Finally found a truck 45 mins away 1969 GMC 2500 4spd originally 396 truck but was sold by P.O. 20ish years ago to neighbor who built cars. Now has a 1972 350 in it that runs good was rebuilt a few years back. Got the truck home today in the 18 degree weather... Battery was deader than 4 oclock so it had to be jumped then it started but front shoes were froze to the drums had to rock them free. Got it on the trailer drove it home had to push it off the trailer and jump it again then drove it to its parking spot. Plans are to degrease the engine and put new valve seals in change oil, new front brake shoes, new inner and outer rockers. Also my gas gauge lays over past full and when I close my doors and lock them and close the door the lock pops open any idea on how to fix them? Appericate any help

Re: GMC build "Burr"
Door needs to be locked with the key. Can't lock these trucks and then shut the door ....have to close the door and use the key.

Re: GMC build "Burr"
Alright thanks and any thoughts on the gas gauge? Could it be a bad float or something in the dash?

Re: GMC build "Burr"
Normally on these trucks it is the float. Seldom the gauge. However have seen it the other way a few times.

Re: GMC build "Burr"
Well got to work on the truck this weekend. Got the oil changed valve cover seals, removed old floor mats. Also put some rislone in for the engine inside the valve covers some gunk built up figured that might help clean them up. Also removed the bench seat foam and walmart seat cover P.O. had installed, need to seat for sure foam is too far gone. While I was tearing apart the inside I tackled the alarm system the P.O. had installed in the 80's. Pulled everybit of 50 feet of wire out of the truck that was put in for the alarm system. Took about hour and a half to chase each wire down because I wasnt for sure what went where. While chasing these wires down I found a stray brown wire behind the seat and just for kicks I attached it to a brass nipple on the gas tank and the guage started moving!! It rolled over to E then I took it off and put it on again and it rolled over to almost F which I think is correct after I put a stick in and saw the gas line on it. Checked all the fuses look good but bought some extra at walmart last night. Attached the new radio antenna but still no static nothing kinda upset thought it would be a easy fix any thoughts? Hope to bleed breaks and put new shoes on when I come home next time and get the seat off to a upholstery shop and the truck off to my metal man to put outer floors, inner/outer rockers and cab corners in. Ill get pic posted later of the old alarm system mess. Any input on the radio and gas gauge would be appericated.

Re: GMC build "Burr"
ignition module. I picked up a medium green gmc this week as well. Nothing to due now but wait for the spring as the weather sucks and the shop is full. Good luck with the project.

Re: GMC build "Burr"
Got to work on the truck this weekend pulled the bench seat in it and brought it to school to have a local guy repair it. Also replaced the valve cover screws on the truck. Cleaned up some of the wires in the truck did have a push start that by passed the key switch. Thought I needed to change the brakes but just need to bleed the brakes. Which the bleeders seem to be froze up any tips to break them loose? Also here is a picture of the fuse panel does everything seem to be in the right place? Hope to have a sending unit and some new seat belts with mounting hardwear and door bushings mailed to me ina a few days.
