Help!!!! Weird noise coming from engine!

Hello all,

Today I attempted to jump start my 72 c10 with a 5.7 carb engine. When I made a couple of attempts on starting it it would just click... after the 5th time I attempted to start it and it did but make a loud spinning/ screeching sound. I turned it off and the noise continued. I ran and got the cables detached from the battery and the noise stopped. I attempted once again to connect the cables and the noise begun right away even without the keys in the ignition. Anyone have an idea what this is?

Shorted starter/relay/ solenoid maybe... rap on the solenoid with a hammer,, should loosen it up..if does , time to replace..

Bad starter is my guess too.

Re: Help!!!! Weird noise coming from engine!

If you tear that starter solenoid apart you're going to find a nice chunk of carbon where it arced and bound to the starting post. You can remove the solenoid and replace it, or if you're ambitious you can tear the solenoid apart and clean the copper disk and contacts.
