disc brakes

if i swap an 81 cross member on to an 68, i would have to pull the motor right? can you just take all of the arms off and put them on the 68? i just put my motor in and this is an after thought, i dont feel like pulling it back out. thanks

if your arms & shafts are in good shape, you dont even need to swap the arms...... use the ball joints for the 81 in the orig arms, & bolt the spindles on! swap all the steer linkage from the 81, & note that you may have to grind steer stops on the spindles to get the proper turn radius(or modify stops on the lower arms). Good luck, crazyL

71-72 (1/2 ton) have the same lower ball joint as 73 - 87. the upper ball joint & uoter tie rod ends are different on the 73 - 87 trucks. The 67- 70 trucks have different pcs yet. pcs from the drum brake trucks do not swap! Best bet is to have all the pcs from 1 truck, to save confussion). I have 75 1/2 ton spindles on my 69 Longhorn,71 lower arms, orig crossmember & upper arms. The centerlink, tierod assys , & balljoints are for the 75 truck......its a bolt in my lower arms were changed due to the fact that the truck was a 3/4 ton, & the hole in the lower a arm was larger. crazyL

what did you get your break booster from? the 81 went through a fire and the master cylinder had plastic on it so it is any good. and the prop. valve has plastic melted to it. would an 83 impala booster and master work? i am thinking about buying 6 lug rotors from Early Classic Enterprises so i can keep the 6 lug. are they a reasonable company?

All of my brake parts came from the 75 donor truck.....lines prop valve & all. as far as the booster, i cant help , as i run a manual disc setup. my firewall is cleaner, & with the stick trans ......I have the brake booster in hand (if needed!) i havent dealt with ECE, but have heard that they are a great company to deal with. Maybe some of the guys that know will chime in.....good luck, crazyL
