tailgate resto question

Hi guys! I am restoring a orange and white 1971 cheyenne super and I want to know exactly how the original paint scheme was on the 2 tone trucks, tailgate actually. Mine will have the small chrome piece that goes under the woodgrain tailgate trim that I believe came on the 2 tone trucks, not really sure. Any pics of the original 2 tone tailgates would be really helpful to me. Thanks!

Actually, looking through some pics, i don't think it matters, I think the gate should be solid color regardless of which paint style you go for...

isn't that painted wrong? shouldnt the windshield pillars also be white? i thought that style white roof was a '67-only deal.

The windshiled pillers should be white and the tailgate on this truck should also have white between the top chrome and the woodgrain Chevrolet tailgate band to be correct. I know, I had one new in 72.

I am doing the 2 tone scheme like the blue and white truck above, but that truck is painted wrong as stated above. If anyone has a pic of a correct 2 tone tailgate, it would help me a great deal. I need to know exactly how the lines are so I will know how to tape mine off correctly. Thanks again!

The Cheyennes and Cheyenne Super shouldn't have the lower small chrome trim. They should have the upper small one that is even with the tail gate handle and should have the large woodgrain band and that is all they should have. The lower small trim was only used on two tone pickups that weren't Cheyenne's or Supers. This is all based on pickups that I have looked at.

Yellow Cheyenne is exctly correct.
On Cheyenne/ Cheyenne Supers it was standard equipment to have the woodgrain band. Otherwise only Custom & Custom Deluxe models with factory installed upper trim option used that lower trim piece on the tailgate. And of course the tutone paint option required upper and lower side trim option.

And that's the way it was.....from the factory that is.
