I've had four brand new trucks of this era. 64-66-69-72 all black under the hood. All made in the fremont ca. plant. Is it posible different plants had different paint themes?

I am really starting to agree with this statement and that maybe it varied plant to plant or even day to day depending on what kind of drugs they where doing that day.....but seriously.....I see no definative answer other than both is correct.....

My 70 C/10 was built in Janesville, Wisconsin and the underside of the hood is black with red overspray

My truck is a 68 gmc built in pontiac, it has body color. The funny thing is I thought all paint was original because my grandpa bought it in 1970 and babied it, but I was talking to my mom today and she told me that one night my grandma was drunk and pissed off at my grandpa and hacked the hell out of the hood with a hatchet, so he had to order a new hood and have it painted.... my mom said that the original hood was body color too! I thought it was funny that she happened to tell me this story when this post was on here.

Hmmmmm that brings up a whole new set of questions.. Maybe the trucks with body color hoods had a &^&%^ Grandma .... Time for a new poll?

My truck came from Fremont plant aswell and under hood was painted the body color,But I will never know if it came that way from the factory because the truck has already been painted once. Now that I have painted it I painted the underside Black but not gloss Black I used SEMs TRIM BLACk lokks good.....

My truck was built at the St Louis plant in Jan of '69 and was painted black underneath the hood (with overspray of course ).

I just saw this thread. My '69 Longhorn (also built at the Fremont plant) hood is black underneath with white overspray, and the truck has never been repainted.

Just noticed this thread. While my truck had everything under the hood spray canned black when I got it, I did buy an original paint hood to replace the one on the truck. It is black underneath with a heavy blue overspray. The hood could have come from anywhere... so no idea on the plant.

Bringing this back from the dead, but my '68 GMC is original paint and has black under the hood, with body colored over spray, like mentioned above. Truck came out of Fremont, CA.

My original paint Atlanta built 1970 was black underneath.

Dammit. Ya made me look. I was sure the '68 was faded oversprayed 516 Orange body color... Nope. So I checked the lot.

'71 GMC Jimmy, Flint truck. Body was painted Med metallic Maui Blue [not a standard truck color] over original Copper. Black under hood. Original? Dunno.

'68 C/10 Stepside. Fremont truck. Known to be original Orange paint. Black under hood. Did I paint it that in the 40-something years I've had it? I can't remember.

'67 K/10 Suburban. Fremont truck. Body is white with Fawn interior. Don't know how original that color is. PO ''touched it up'' with white Kool-Kote roofing paint.
Black under hood, but same PO glued up some rubber-ripple sound deadener on the undersurface to quiet down the rumble from his hillbilly shoehorning -in a 454.

My 72 has the 2 tone white over blue and the inside of the hood is black but firewall is blue.

Read this last night and Checked my hood in the barn. 1972 K25 Factory Dark Olive green and White (Forget Paint Code) PO painted over the white with the Olive Green. Underside of hood is Body Color. Will more than likely paint the underside black when I paint.

Here's my underhood contribution. 67 GMC 3500 Built in Pontiac all original paint. Underhood is and always was body color.

Just for the record. all canadian built 67-72 trucks are satin black under the hood with some factory overspray around the edges. Oshawa must have painted the trucks with the hoods already installed, or atleast laying in place.
this also goes for the 64-66 trucks too.
and yes i have seen alot of trucks, owned, parted out, or in junkyards. Always black in canada.

also the factory chalk marks are similar on canadian trucks, often a color code and i have seen engine displacement too. Written in yellow or white grease pencil.
