Brake lines from master cylinder - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

For those of you that have redone your brake lines using a firewall mount master cylinder, did you put the coils in the line like most factory lines have or a nice clean bend in them. I know it’s for viberation but lots of people seem to leave that out.

" lots of people " may have a leak someday to....it need some flex in it...not necessarily between the master and firewall like in your pic...no movement there......it needs to be between master and frame...

I did not make a coil with mine. I liked the cleaner look without the coils. They have worked fine for years...

try to leave a slight slope in the lines back to the master so any air in the system can find it's way out. not a big deal but makes bleeding easier. if you do a system like old man did there is enough line there to take up any required "movement" between body and frame, and it looks real clean and professional. if you decide to do a small coil also ensure to make it easy for air to escape through the master.

25 years of building cars, never put coils in MC lines, never had a leak.

The cab mounts on the old trucks do not allow as much movement as on newer vehicles.

I would probably include the coils below the toe board of the cab.

If you're concerned about body to frame flex, you could always put a quality short braided line at the junction and have clean lines to the MC.

Thanks for the replies. I went the similar route that oldman did. I liked the clean look of it better and there is still some movement allowed with the angles.

Yep, the front cab mount is a 1/16" piece of rubber so it's essentially solid.

I don't have a picture of my lines, but I did at first have a loop, only because the "experienced" people said to do so, but I liked the clean look so I removed those lines and put in the new ones i have now. NO loops, but I do have a mild bend in them. My .02 worth
