Lowering '57
Hi, I just regestered...I have a '57 GMC Stepside...it is just the frame and axles right now. I'm trying to lower it all around just to give it a nice stance. I am trying to keep it mostly stock, so I baught a bracket kit for the rear, to move the axle above the leaf springs...that will drop it a lot in the rear...so I had planned on getting lowered spindles for the front, and mustang II discs just for the front...i don't want to cut the frame or put in independant front suspension, so I was looking for lowered spindles that would mate up to the stock axle...but I haven't been able to find any for a '57 chevy/gmc....
the only solution I could think of was to get mono leaf springs for the front, or a droped axle.... ANY SUGGESTIONS? Thanks Guys |

Welcome to the site. I have never seen any spindles, so you will have to go with dropped axl or springs. I have a 58 that i am using the mono leafs on. I bought he 4 inch dropped leafs. The dropped axels were not out when i bought the springs. If your king pins are in good shape, i'd go with the leafs. If you are going to have new king pins go the axel way. Just my 2cents worth. johnj

Thanks John J
Thanks John J...took me a while to respond...
I too have not found a dropped spindle, so I am going to go the 3" drop mono leaf spring route for the front, since I have already done a new kingpin job, and want to keep the stock axle.... It has been fun to be working on the truck again...my dad and I have started our own Monday Night Monster Garage, my brother, sister's boyfriend, future father in-law, and a couple neighbors stop by Monday evenings to have a few brews, a little grub, and most importantly do some wrenching! It is actually pretty motivating to have the help of a few guys... thanks for the input |

tri5's use a straight front axle. would have to swap to independent suspension to even have spindles.......
for lowering, it would really be best to get independent front suspension. (it's good for the ride too)
