Re: 1/2 ton GMC
Leaf springs were standard on GMC and optional on Chevy. Coils were standard on Chevy and optional on GMC...

Re: 1/2 ton GMC
...although both Chevy and GMC listed the leafs as an option on the SPID. This is a case where going by a huge group of owners' info trumps what can be learned from the SPID

Re: 1/2 ton GMC
As has already been stated here...GMC's defaulted to leafs springs and the Chevy's had coil...with both brands offering the option for the standard counterpart.
To my understanding corporate GM was working to push GMC and Chevy together to standardize more on parts, engines, etc. GMC resisted on certain things including giving up their leaf spring history so GM had the coils offered as an option in the GMC line...and Chevy was the opposite. You can see this standardization as well in the engines going into 1968 when GMC gave up their V-6 engines and adopted the chevy engines. Interesting stuff all around tho'. Coley

Re: 1/2 ton GMC
Nope. As mentioned, optional either way. I have a short step 69 Chevy with leaves and a 71 GMC 1/2 ton longbed with coils. Can go either way.
