throttle cable from 2bbl 307 to a 4bbl 350

Hello,
I'm new here and have had my 72 C10 for almost a year. When I first got the truck the previous owner had replaced the original 307 w/2bbl with a 350 w/4bbl Edelbrock. From the get go it had a fast idle and come to find out the throttle cable is about a 1/4" short from letting the throttle go clear to idle. I'm assuming that the cable is too short because it was for a 2bbl and the 4bbl has the throttle linkage farther forward. Would a throttle cable for a 4bbl truck remedy this problem? I originally "adjusted" the cable bracket to get it this far, but a had a good mechanic buddy of mine replace the 350 turbo tranny with a 700R4 and I think he changed the cable bracket. I'd just as soon fix it right this time and be done with it. I see LMC lists 3 cables for a 4bbl. Would one for a SBC do the trick?

If you still have the bracket the cable mounts to on the manifold, then yes. If not you may need one of these, 38-4708 on page 58. On page 52 you'll want the 350 with 2wd cable which is a 32-4524...Now with that understood I'm questioning how your mechanic hooked up the detent correctly without a functioning throttle cable? A 700r4 transmission MUST have that detent cable properly set or the tranny is toast! Do your research so that you know without question that detent cable is right. A 700r4 detent cable does not adjust in the same way a 350 Turbo-Hydramatic does.

All I know is I've swapped factory 350 4bbl engines in place of 307 2bbl and put complete 4bbl manifold/carb set-up on a 307 and the cable was not an issue at all. So must be something about the brackets you have. I don't know that the cables are any different between the two engines. Not enough to matter in my cases, using all original stuff. I would have your mechanic friend take a look at the detent cable adjustment. As mentioned, it is a crucial adjustment. The difference between life and death for the 700r4. It's not a matter of questioning a man's ability, it's a matter of possibly some finer adjustment required.

Ironangel, The cable and brackets are 307 2bbl. They work, but the engine idles about 300-500 rpm too high and the cable is all the way out. If you unhook the cable the rpms go down to normal. I'm sure my buddy did good on the transmission and set up. He's been wrenching for about 45 years and I've known him for 20yrs. He's always done me good. I'm going to try one of those cables for a 2wd 350 4bbl.

I might have the picture of the bracket you need for the th350 Not sure for the 700R4.I will try showing it did not find it will have to start taking new pics of them brackets give me a few days
