lower control arm u-bolt question

Have any of y'all used the dorman 13503 u-bolts for your lower control arms?
I was reading in another section of the forum that you can drill them out to accommodate the thicker u-bolts. Am I reading this wrong?

I don't see where it would do any harm. As long as the distance of the U bolt is the same fit around the shaft.

Yes they will fit. I used Napa pn 650-4065, same thing. 73+ lower a arm shaft u bolts. Get a 9/16 drill bit and hold on tight to your drill.

Any auto parts store , Dorman 13503 about $9.95 a set so for $20.00 you can upgrade just for the increase in safety , Let alone what can happen to your baby if the old stock ones fail .

Do a little searching there are a few threads on changing them out safely .

Y'all have any idea where I might find the bump stops for the UCA and LCA? I have looked at like Napa and I was trying not to have to order them. My parts finally arrived and this was the one thing I forgot to order

It's how I did mine, and also upgraded to grade 8, 9/16" u-bolts.

I just did mine last week. Buy a new 9/16 drill bit and be careful. I torqued them to 75 pounds.

Glad I ran across this, looks like something worthwhile to do on my 72. I had planned to reuse my stockers as they are in good shape, but seeing others have problems makes me want to upgrade.

I also got lucky and the 9/16" u-bolts fit in my cross member without having to drill out the holes.

Super happy to run across this thread, since I am currently getting my front end all put back together.

I grabbed a spare 9/16" grade 8 bolt I have and it slid right through my stock holes. So this upgrade is a no brainer.

Shipping to Hawaii will delay the process a tad, but happy to wait in safety's name.

Does anyone know if this applies to 1968 trucks also?? I'm fixing to tear into my front end and replace the lower shafts, when i go disc brakes....

I did it on my 67. I had to drill the holes out.

Drill them and don't give it a second thought. I don't think the 1/2 bolts are even available anymore
