old gas in the tank can give you a problem unless you have cleaned it out

Good news!! I was able to rebuild the Rochester Monojet carburetor and put it all back in and boom it lives... however when I go to apply and gas it immediately dies. Also the carb has starting to spit fuel out of the top. But while its running its getting a good idle and seems to be working but I cannot rev up in rpm.
The issues: engine temp went over 210 - has water carb is spitting gas every now and then no throttle response and then dies Still needs more cleaning but I was able to clean a good portion of the back gunk and now it shows its good old orange self. |

Retarded timing will make it spit like that.
What’s your initial timing? |

To be honest I only found TDC and forgot to even look at my timing. Im gonna get a timing light this weekend but most likely it is retarded as apposed to advanced. It does idle better since finding TDC but I will double check the timing and hopefully be able get to reverse and roll out.

For the engine oil should I just use a 30w conventional? or 10w-30 conventional?

JUST AN UPDATE!!
So far I have replaced the: stater solenoid alternator belt spark plugs oil/filter spark plugs plug wires distributor rebuilt carburetor battery All this and it finally runs, after 26 years sitting out in the elements she's purring. I have a slight timing issue but that will get takin care of shortly. Brakes on the other hand have been a bit of a nuisance but hopefully figured out this week. Im looking to bleed the lines and get some pressure back in them. If anyone knows of a good aftermarket conversion to discs that would be helpful. Thanks for the help and I look forward to sharing his first run down the road soon. |
