4L80E Trans Tunnel mods?
Is there a need to modify the trans tunnel for a LSx/4L80E swap in a '74 C10?

there maybe a tad bigger than a th400 . the 4l80-e shares some of the th400 parts .
you should be fine or maybe just a few tweeks. on a 1974 i would also be looking at body mount bushings . if there dead this will drop the cab closer and make it tight.

My truck doesn't have an LS but I did install a 4l80e and didn't have to do any modifications

Thanks Bandit, I’m actually a longtime member but lost my account (ericpost) so I started a new one.
Just bought the ‘74 but have been building the LS and tranny for a while now. It’s my first LS build and m following the Sloppy Mechanic way, should be right around 500hp to the wheels with a small turbo. https://photos.app.goo.gl/UgTNp418KNMj2q2i1 Posted via Mobile Device |

That’s great news! Pretty sure I can set the engine where I want so it does not sound like I’ll need to cut the tunnel! Hope to have the swap done by mid summer (working on my other car and doing some early season racing first) so the less work the better. Sweek, I’ll look into the cab mounts, thanks for the heads up |

Re: 4L80E Trans Tunnel mods?
So sort of related....
I'm gonna dump the stock AC unit in favor of a Vintage Air unit. Going to keep the low mount because the turbo will be mounted passenger side high. Pretty sure I'm going with LSX Innovation multi postion motor mounts and I have read I need to make a few mods, first to the mount by cutting the front side off and then I might need to notch the cross member a little for the AC Unit. My question is if I move the motor back 1.5" will that interfere with the tunnel? |
