Advice Please (Carrier bearing)
I think I know the answer but any help will confirm my thoughts.
I pulled the drive shaft out today. (double shaft long bed) and found the carrier bearing housing rubber distorted. But my main concern is the spline for the u joint yoke. The groves appear to be worn beyond use. The yoke came out OK with a bearing puller however the bearing was very diffucult to remove. Is the shaft now useless ?or can a new spline be welded on? If so what are possible costs to repair and what should I know to make sure it is done right. Thanks Hope the pictures tell the story.

The carrier bearing pressed on and always hard to get off. I usually have them pressed off as well, so I don't dammage the splines removing them. The new on has to be pressed on also. So just go buy a new bearing and have it pressed on and you will be good to go. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Wes....... Thanks for reply, but I'm more concerned with the splines notice how they are distorted. Kind of like they have been hammered, don't you think?
I will buy a good quality carrier. Chris

They look twisted to me too. Time for a trip to the driveline shop or to find a good used shaft.
