transmission adjustment

Our transmission on our gmc (T400) has a lot of play in the selector. I have another transmission (T350) That has a firm "click"
rachet action for all of the gears. On the t400 it is barely detectable that it is in gear. This transmission shifts great and has no slip, just needs a little adjustment on the tranmission side.
I disconnected the linkage, and thats how i know its the trans.
Someonme says the is a "fan switch"just inside the transmission that controls this detent.(?)
Any help?

Oh, I have a colum from a 77 g-10 van, is this nearly a direct swap? I know I need the wiring adjuster and what do i shorten?

There isn't really any 'adjustment' You will have to pull the pan and see if the nut that holds on the detent has come loose. Takes 9/16 wrench I believe to tighten it.
