Dual tanks without switching valve?

This is a complete rewire situation, so none of the factory stuff applies.

It appears I can put a '87 tank, '87 pickup, ep381 pump, and corvette filter/regulator on each side of the truck. Install a check valve after each regulator, tee them together, and run one line to the fuel rail.

The switch on the dash would be a double pole, double throw type. One pole would flip the fuel gauge between tanks; the other pole would send power to one of the pumps.

Has anyone done this? It appears to me it would be a much cleaner install than using a selector valve.
