Trouble getting u joint clips into slip yoke
TH350 and 1 piece driveshaft.
I've had trouble getting both clips in on the yoke with new U joints. As if the clips are too thick. I shaved one clip down to fit but I realized that the caps seem to be uneven now and I don't know if thats an issue. Here are two pics to show the unevenness that I'm talking about. The yoke itself appears to have no abnormalities the caps by themselves will go through the holes completely so its not that the caps are being held up by something in the yoke. I've tried multiple u joints and have the same issue. EDIT: From what I understand the u joint at the axle and at the transmission is the same, if this is incorrect then its quite likely that I just have the wrong U joint in there.

Re: Trouble getting u joint clips into slip yoke
Usually when that happens a roller has fallen out of the cap & is not letting the cap go in all the way. But you have tried another joint & it is the same. The yoke is probably squesed together from someone over doing it with the hammer or press. If you don't get it right you will have vibration problems. I would take it to a driveshaft shop If you want a smooth running truck.

Re: Trouble getting u joint clips into slip yoke
Yeah the caps themselves are on all the way, just not square in the yoke. Probably cheaper to just order new yoke.

Re: Trouble getting u joint clips into slip yoke
I had a similar difficulty on the Spicer drive shafts I modified for my truck. On mine, there were four small punch marks where the clips had been staked in. When replacing the clips, I had to scrape the groove really well to get the new ones to seat. Also, there are various thicknesses of clips available.
