Proportioning valve horizontal?

I'm installing my brake proportioning valve - one of those big clunky brass factory-type units (actually a combination valve). Anyone know if it's okay to mount those horizontally instead of the standard vertical configuration? I can't imagine it would make a difference, but maybe there are some check valves in there that need to be upright?
