Rear Door sliders / stops

On the rear doors, what are everyone doing with them? Paiiting them to match the body paint, stripping off the cheezy paint on them from the last paint job, painting them a different color?

I ask because I am powder-coating a lot of pieces on mine and while it makes sense to powder coat these I am on the fence which way to go.

From everything I can tell, they are a natural finish it some applications from the factory while others paint them to match the body color.

Thoughts or examples??

I presume you are talking about barn doors. Here is what I did with mine.

I think the originals were zinc plated or something like that.

Thank you Leon. How long have you had them like this? No issues with day to day use?

I think I like them, but it seems a bit more modern that I am going with on my truck. Undecided.

I remember seeing a kit in the LMC catalog, too. Though, a little more expensive than Lockdoc's fix, assuming those prices in his post haven't gone up much in the past few years.

I am just worried that a single stud and ball will hold that door many times. Wind, etc, can grab the door and take it out of my hand if I am not paying attention. A single point of failure from where there used to be two grade 8 screws originally sat makes me think twice.

Saying that, I did order the parts to do it so I can at least make the call from what I can see.

I have had them on for about two years I guess. No issues with them. I guess I wish the struts weren't quite so strong. I'm sure a guy could find some less powerful (for lack of a better word) ones but I haven't looked at this point..... You won't have to worry about the wind catching them. When the door is open it is open to stay until you close it. They also open slowly by nature of the struts. You do have to be a little careful when you close them, when you get over center they want to close by themselves and will slam if you don't hold on to the handle....

Yeah, if a guy was going more toward the stock look they might not be so good. My panel is so far from stock it didn't matter on it....

McMaster Carr sells them by length and force ratings. For more money you can get adjustable force struts. By adjustable it means you can reduce the gas pressure in the strut but no way to increase it once bled off.
