1972 Black/silver Chevrolet Tailgate Band

From a 72 blazer.
Perfectly straight and no dings. Missing O. I have the H/R unattached. Will obviously need painted but the metal is in really good condition.
$75 plus shipping

Hey there. I believe it’s oem. It came with the blazer and everything else has been oem. But I honestly don’t know. Is there a way to check? If you don’t know maybe someone else will chime in. I’m only as smart as my google is fast. I’ll check there too.

Hey Robert. I was told by a very knowledgeable guy (owner of daves truck parts) that the original bands had grey painted letters and the after market ones had chrome letters. So it appears this one is oem.

Not true. The original tailgate bands had chrome metal letters and later on chevy went to grey painted plastic ones if I'm not mistakin. I have 2 NOS tailgate bands in my shop that have the newer style letters on them but both are super cheyenne bands with wood grain. I also have an old beat original band off my 72 that had the chrome metal letters and it's woodgrain also... I don't remember those bands ever being black in the center where the woodgrain goes. I've only seen them in after market so I'm not so sure yours is oem. I mean if it's straight I still might be interested but I think those aftermarkets brand new are about 189.00

Interesting. So the original “original” was chrome then later switched to grey painted. I thought the black/chrome tailgate was just to match the black/chrome side molding of the same sort.

Posted via Mobile Device[/QuUOTE] I have never seen the black faced tailgate bands other than aftermarket. Now there's a chance that band might have had the woodgrain removed and painted it black. Let me check my box tomorrow and see what letters I'm missing compared to yours. Which ones are missing on your again?
