WTB 1964 Power Steering Brackets for L6 292 cid AKA Monster Powerhouse !!

Anyone have the 292 PS brackets? They are different than the smaller L6s, I guess just to keep us hunting in the future, which is now.

Thanks everyone, we are all a great community......of crazy nuts working on old but beautiful art that happens to get us from point A to point B with some interesting fun in between. Have a good weekend all.

Re: WTB 1964 Power Steering Brackets for L6292

The two main brackets for attaching the Power Steering pump to the engine for 63’to 66’ 292 engines are the same as the ones used, on the 250/230 engines up to around 1970. The pulley is different.

Will check Parts book, also post photo of 64’ to 66’ main brackets-two pieces.

Re: WTB 1964 Power Steering Brackets for L6292

A little more information, including previous information from member 60-66.

“There are the two main brackets for power steering on all 63-66 trucks 230 250 and 292. The difference with a 63-66 292 is the pumps pulley and (lower support arm, not shown in photos below). These same brackets were used on all passenger car sixes also, Camaro Nova Chevelle and Impala and were in use on 230-250 trucks till 1970 according to the parts books.”
The above mentioned brackets are not correct for 67 up 292 but are correct for 63-66 292. (See Bowties11 post below for more information on 67’ up 292 brackets)

Note: the flat lower support arm/bracket that bolts to the block for the 292 engine is different, it is longer, then the smaller 6 cylinders. Photo of it not shown below.

Last two photos are from member 60-66. Most of this knowledge is from member 60-66.

Re: WTB 1964 Power Steering Brackets for L6292

Thank you so much guys. I even got my first CaptianFab comment on one of my strings. It's like christmas.

This board is full of the best, most helpful selfless people I've ever had the honor of being a part of. I sincerely appreciate all the detail, I love details! I did get lucky today at pick-a-part here in CA. Found a 6cyl, couldn't get the casting number to come up in any search engine i found and so regardless, took the pump, one bracket that cradles the pump, two other arm brackets (maybe a quick fix to get back running). I'll post the pictures on here later on when I'm rested from searching 2 acres of cars in 80 degree heat. I'm getting older, it's not as easy as it use to be. No more running down rows! LOL. But I think its missing one bracket to go from othe cradle to the head mount studs (yes, I took those too). I hope i'm wrong, but thinking not.

This is all great. you'll all be surprised to know that every steering gear that mounted on the outside of the frame was gone, every one out of 20 different 1980's trucks and suburbans/tahoes. May be worth it just buying that new since the core is only $20 and total out the door is $135. Any suggestions on which model's gear and pitman would work best on my '64 C20 being turned into a C10 (already have the suspension and other hardware). I'd like to put it all in at the same time so it's done correctly the first time and I won't have to stop and put a new part on every month. Let me know and thanks again to you all for this help on my old 64.
