Window felts and wind wing rubber...oh my!
Is there a better rubber product out there than Precision? I rebuilt the wind wing vents over a year ago and installed into the doors. At the time I thought maybe the rubber would lay down after a little time. It has been in the garage the entire time since the build is not complete. I just did the widow felts today and I am really disappointed with the quality of how these lay down also. Is there something I am missing here, or is the expect quality of rubber products available.

The vent window rubber should be tucked into door and on the window wipers I had to trim them a bit to fit right.

Re: Window felts and wind wing rubber...oh my!
I made the same mistake. That's the problem with taking it apart and putting it back together months later. (That's my excuse anyway!) That and most other vehicles the seal goes over the steel so you assume it should here too.j

The guys are correct, The bottom of the vent window gasket/seal should be inside the door and you have to trim the window seals and wipers to fit. LockDoc

Re: Window felts and wind wing rubber...oh my!
Thanks for the advice, I will get the rubber tucked in on the vent wing and remove and trim the others. Still does seem that the window rubber on the outside of the door will not ride up on the window like it should........thanks!

Most of the rubber on the outer seals are too short and don't reach the glass. The problem could also be that the metal strap between the inner and outer door panels is broken and the door is spread apart. Here is a picture of the strap and where mine was cracked. If there is a gap between your vent window rubber and the outside of the door this may be the problem. This happens to be a '72 door so it shows the clip for the door screw also. LockDoc

Re: Window felts and wind wing rubber...oh my!
Here is a quick drawing of what I feel that the outside wiper is not doing. I thought that it was supposed to ride up on the window so that when it rains or snows it will shed the water away from going down inside the door. In some places mine does that a little but in some it is actually curved down. So it is not functional and it just plain looks like a bad fit.
The drawing is what I am trying to explain.

Re: Window felts and wind wing rubber...oh my!
I don't believe that GM designed them to keep water out. They are meant to keep debris from getting inside the door and plugging the drain holes and to keep the window frame from scratching the glass. There were no factory electrical components inside these doors so there was no requirement to keep things dry. The same basic style of felts and wipers are on my 51 GMC.

Re: Window felts and wind wing rubber...oh my!
Precision has always been a top name in window gaskets
The last wing vents and window rubber products I used came from Steele Rubber Products. https://www.steelerubber.com High quality parts.

Re: Window felts and wind wing rubber...oh my!
I have had nothing but fantastic results witn Precision's products when installed correctly. I didn't trim the window sweep on mine and they were a bear to make fit next to the vent window post. Then I looked at the factory ones I pulled out of there, I noticed that even those were trimmed to fit. Once trimmed them they fit perfectly.

Re: Window felts and wind wing rubber...oh my!
I finished my truck 3 years ago and never liked the way the wing window rubber looked. Now I know why, I didn't install it correctly. Once my truck comes out of storage that will be one of the first things I fix, tucking the seal inside the door. Thanks
