New Style Cab Light Pics? Need some options

I am in search of 67-72 truck with newer style cab lights. Not to far from cutting roof off for the crewcab build and cant decide what cab light option I want. I have a 2017 and really like the sleekness and tinted roof marker lights just nor sure what they would look like or how they would fit to a 67-72 roof profile? Also is there a difference in between any of the 67-72 years of marker lights?

Thanks guys

Re: New Style Cab Light Pics? Need some options

I believe 67-68 U01 meant Yankee 77s whereas 69-72 U01 had raised pad guide lights - with 69-only having hockey pucks on some trucks. I don’t have a picture handy, but i have seen the new lenses on a 67-72 and, sorry, but felt like it completely killed the period look. Personally, I’d go with Yankee 77s on a flat roof, they can be found pretty readily on eBay. Just a thought. Hopefully someone can post a pic of the newer lights for you and speak to the profile match. They don’t look bad, but just my personal opinion.

Thought right now is a black and gray two tone look with the top being black, thought the newer lenses might blend in better since they are smoked and don't stand up too high but am also worried to ruin the classic look we all love so much

Re: New Style Cab Light Pics? Need some options

I hear you want to see the sleek blacked out lights to subdue them. I guess not many have, but hopefully someone can show a picture. Now this is my opinion, but also "why" I like the clearance lamps in the first place, I say run what belongs and let them show proud. That's what they are all about. Try to blend them and it's "what are those little bumps on the roof?". You lose the clean smooth look of nothing up there while not gaining the stand tall and proud this is a real truck coming down the road look that clearance lamps are all about. GM designed them to be quite sleek as well as minimal size. Amber belongs showing to the front and sides while red belongs on the rear. Anything else just doesn't belong. Clear and smoked lenses scream modern era, wrong era, doesn't belong, possibly Pep Boys/JC Whitney/K-mart rash. These are lights. They are meant to be seen. I say if you want them hid then forgot the whole idea. If you want lights, put the ones that belong and there will be no question if it's right or not...because it just plain would be right...cuz GM said so.

I probably am opposite of you though
I upgraded a bunch of trucks recently
I wished, my 2015 cab lights were taller, like they used to be

Re: New Style Cab Light Pics? Need some options

I personally don’t really like cab lights on 2wd trucks
But love the look on c30 dually,s
And
Think they look good on 4x4’s of our era

Sounds like you are building a crew cab?
I, too think it would look best with period correct !

Good luck whatever you end up with
You need to build it to your taste !

Re: New Style Cab Light Pics? Need some options

awesome pics Chevyland, really love the one of the 4 current work trucks vs the other 4, that picture should be framed side by side if those are all yours!!

QUESTION- which roof skins came with the raised bumps? Where those for a specific clearance light? Reason it is pressing is - if I need the raised bumps I need to find a roof skin instead of using the one I have. Other wise I can just lower if and put different styles up there and see down the road.

Re: New Style Cab Light Pics? Need some options

Also for what it is worth, I am debating on running new stlye (Chevy 2016 ish) tow mirrors - will need to figure out how to incorporate into the vent window area. Again this is going to be a crewcab longbed, sitting on 35'' tires. SO big truck requires big mirrors haha

Re: New Style Cab Light Pics? Need some options

All c30 duallys came with cab lights
Or the raised pads were on there if the truck was special ordered with
Clearance Lights

If you need a skin with pads, run a WTB ad in classifieds
The stock one uses the stock lights as shown on the white flatbed and teal 4x
The other types like on the yellow truck are an aftermarket that just screw to normal roof skin

Here is your mirrors

Ha ha ha ....

Any close up pics of the style of marker lights with the raised pads? I think I'm confused a little

Re: New Style Cab Light Pics? Need some options

You can install the 69-91 style cab markers on a regular top.

GM totally screwed up the marker lights on the newer trucks when they did that weird thing with bunching the three center lamps up. Cab marker lamps are a truck tradition that doesn't need messing with. You see five lights on top of a vehicle, one at each end and three in the center, and it lets you know a larger heavier vehicle is coming at you. I always knocked Ford for screwing it up with insisting on placing all five evenly across the top. Then, when GM made the center three one unit my Ford buddies were the ones saying "What were they thinking?"

It's just like the big mirrors that are needed on a truck. Some let the mirrors bother them. I like them because they belong. They serve a purpose, just like a truck. We see them because they have to be there, so they don't bother me. In fact, I embrace them. "They are a truck thing. If I have to explain you wouldn't understand"
