Well I finally decided to rebuild my Qjet myself (I've never built a carb before) in hopes it would fix my off idle sputtering.

IT DID! and it wasn't that difficult to do either. Unfortunately the carb kit I bought didn't have instructions so I was at a slight disadvantage...but I took a good look at things before I removed them and it really wasn't that difficult.

Cost me $12 and some carb cleaner. The rebuild shop wanted $150 to rebuild it. It took about 2 hours...not a bad per hour savings!

Im fixing on doing the same thing. Ive done mowers and go karts but never a truck carb.

Ray...do you have a Quadrajet? If so look on the right side of the carb for the id numbers...call up your local Autozone or the like and get their kit...the only thing that was difficult was getting the air horn gasket over the power piston assembly...if you have a digital camera or a video camera just document it as you go...also here's a great website with an exploded view of the Qjet with names (that's how I knew what a air horn gasket and power piston are).

they're not bad to rebuild, my problem always seems to be getting the secondary metring rods to go into the jets, it's either a 1 shot deal or I'm there for 30 minutes and end up taking off the lift arm and putting them in 1 at a time, cantankarous little devils they are!!

Im having the same problem w/mine. I saw the carb site cal69chevy posted a week back (thanks cal!!). Figured what the 7734. I've rebuilt 2 bbls b/4 but not a 4bbl. Its clean, started last night to put it back 2gether. Hope to have it done/running Friday p.m. And yes, took lots of digital pixs. The rebuild kit is ok but the exploded diagram aint to good and I have CRS. Thank god for the digital pixs.

Ok...I must be dense (second post this week with that intro...not a good sign)..but does 7734 mean and what is CRS?

crs - cant remember ship
7734 - its an old timer way of saying where the devil lives. Write it on paper and hold it up to a mirror or something like that.
I know, little things amuse little minds and god knows i've got a little mind.
And thanks again for providing that carb web site. Gave me the gumption to rebuild mine.
