Are the split marker lights factory or aftermarket?
My dad and I were talking about it the other day. He said his 72 had them back in the day. We’re they a factory option? Trim package specific? Only on specific years? Or aftermarket?

They are factory "deluxe" side makers. Great questions there and would like to know more also. I know they came on 71, 72 cheyenne supers but have seen them on 70 CST trucks as well.

Re: Are the split marker lights factory or aftermarket?
We were kind of leaning towards them being an upper trim level option when we were talking. I have wanted to change mine since I got my truck to the solid ones because I figured they were base model original. I couldn't find any information on the internet about it though.

My 72 Cheyenne has them. Pretty sure they're original, because there isn't a lot of color left in them.

Re: Are the split marker lights factory or aftermarket?
That’s exactly the same year and trim package of my dad’s truck. I’m beginning to think it’s trim level specific.

71 &72 only, depending on the trim package you had.

Re: Are the split marker lights factory or aftermarket?
These actually started in 1969. Original markers have the DOT date of '69 on them

Standard for RPO Z84 and YE9 starting in 69. So, in 69-70, CST got them, and in 71/72, Cheyenne and Cheyenne Super did.

Re: Are the split marker lights factory or aftermarket?
My 69 CST had the standard non-lighted markers when I bought it in 1969. I later noticed that other 1969 CSTs had lighted deluxe markers along with some other items (headliner, cargo light and a couple other things). I contacted Chevrolet and asked why. Their response was that my truck was produced the second week of December and that these items were added about a week after my truck was made. I believe that may also have been when lights were required in the markers (before Jan. 1, 1969?).
Based on this, I'd say the deluxe markers were added on the top trim line during Dec., 1968, and the top 2 trim lines in 1971. Last edited by FirstOwner69; 04-20-2018 at 04:24 PM. |

Re: Are the split marker lights factory or aftermarket?
My '70 has them.
70 was also the first year, I believe, of them flashing with the turn signal.
