A stock mechanical fuel pump is too much for a 1406 / 1407. I can only imagine what kind of pressure the electric pump is pushing to it. I see two options for you my friend -- change to a Holley, or a fuel pressure regulator ( a good one) which negates the benefits you'll see from the electric pump.
