Door Latch Broke ?

Got the truck out today and while opening the driver's door from inside the cab I heard a click and the inside door handle would not spring return to the neutral postion. Pulled the door panel off and can not see anything dis-connected. No springs or parts laying in the bottom of the door. Door handle still works but have to manually return it to position. Is the problem internal within the door latch, meaning I need to find a new one? Door still closes tight.

Door Parts

If you determine you need a door part and need something internal. I'm currently disassembling a set of doors right now, I may have it.

The spring on the door control, (the part that the handle attaches to) has broken. They are available new or you can get a good used one as long as the spring is good. the springs are prone to break, from what I have seen.

67-71 will interchange, 72 is by itself as the stem is longer.

I had the same problem until my 75 year old yankee thrift mechanic dad fixed it. He said it was a common problem "back then" and they didnt want to go through the hassel of replacing the latch. He simply attached a long throttle return spring on the back of the handle rod, pulled the spring back to create tension and attached it as far back as possible to the cut out opening. All that was needed was a 50cent spring and removing door panel. Mine now works like a charm.

My driver's side door handle mechanism broke the other day when I went to open it. I pushed the button, and a cascade of parts fell inside the door.

After thinking I may pull a used one off a junker I decided to get a set of new ones from LMC just to see what the quality was like. I'm actually pretty happy with them. They look better than the originals.

Gary (Ironhorse), I just put new outside handles on my truck, and have the old ones in the garage. If you need a part, you are welcome to it, give me a call or an email, LB.
