LS mounts

I know ive seen a few people on here use either of these universal style mounts...
wondering about whether they have any vibration issues ,or are they about the same as the clamshell mounts?

Re: LS mounts

why would one use these over stock tower, stock mounts and an inexpensive adapter plate?

not knocking, honestly curious.

Re: LS mounts

custom install...picture a bare frame with a engine sitting there that needs connected to each other...
what you suggested I've used in the past with good results. ....just looking for something simple....

i guess i still don't understand, you can take a bare frame / engine and connect it just as i described.

nothing simpler than bolting stock parts together

Re: LS mounts

I made a set of mounts using a bushing similar to that. I don't like them to be honest. They have way more play than the stock mounts did. When I put my engine back in, put the bolts in, and let the hoist down the engine continues to lower another half inch or so. Seems like too much for me.

Re: LS mounts

ok willie....let me break it down for you...[sometimes I confuse myself]....this is a LS going in my IH build...the IH has a single front engine mount...there is no crossmember, towers ,mounts or anything else.....stock or otherwise...to just bolt right in...no side mounts or anything....its just 2 frame rails .....im going to have to fab a crossmember for the engine and if those style mounts I showed don't cause vibration issues im going to fab a set of those as well...to better clarify it heres a pic of the frame...yellow arrow pointing at front engine mount

Re: LS mounts

thanks binford..that video kinda confirms what I suspected about poly bushings.. so I would go with rubber....

tiny..what bushing did you use..poly or rubber?

Re: LS mounts

I have a 73 scout
Correct you will need to buy or Fab mounts.
I like poly engine mounts with rubber trans / transfer mount.

Anything Scout has LS mounts on there website.
Which use leaf spring bushing.

I would buy some stock ls mounts from RockAuto and Fab a bracket from those.

I will have a used set hopefully in a couple weeks, as I'm putting my motor in my Chevy pickup.
At least I can post a picture. Plus I know what the scout mount looks like

Re: LS mounts

I used 4 inch long poly. Im thinking of machining an aluminum donut to put inside and limit the movement. Either that or make a new set of towers to use the old mounts. I have a 4 inch Z and need to bring the engine down.

Re: LS mounts

yeah willie ...that's why I didn't mention what it was going in...I was trying to keep it a generic question about the mounts themselves....haha

Re: LS mounts

Here are the pics of the mounts I made. I made the first set then was concerned about the lack of triangulation with the frame rail. I remade them but didn't account for the forward sump of the Fbody pan I was switching to.

Re: LS mounts

I used the ones on the right in your pic at the top. This is in a 62 that was using a horseshoe mount on the old 327. Done about 3500 miles on them, no problems so far !! Touch wood !! Not noisy at all, have checked them and the appear to be not breaking down at all.

Re: LS mounts

I like the DayStar poly bushing
There not as hard as most poly bushing.
These guys carry just the bushing or a complete unit.
They offer 15% off or free shipping around each holiday.

http://www.wfoconcepts.com/pr/YJ-Large-Bushing-Kit/3625

These are used for many things, one being motor mounts.
I would use them in my build, but going to try the stock mounts.
