Question Please check this out

Alright all,

Today is going to be the first time I have every dropped a transmission and put another one back in....

Got any tips or tricks for me?

Anything will help, I think I pretty much know, but I wouldnt like any surprises right in the middle of it or while Im under the truck...!!!

Take off the linkage first. Use a jack! and watch your fingers. it's heavy.

thanks for the input.....
Here is what I have done so far...
disconnected everything that is attached to the tranny with the exception of the driveshaft and the engine block....

Is there a trick on getting the driveshaft out of the transmission?
I disconnected it from the rear defferiential but I cant seem to get it out of the tranny

Don't forget to support the engine. Put a block of wood under the oil pan to keep from denting it in.

you have to pull it straight back about 1/2 to 1 inch before you can drop it down.

It depends on the exhaust. Some you can just pull out and no big deal. If you have a Y pipe that has to be dropped then you you better have a stand or something under the oil pan. If you got enoug room on dual to drop the tranny without disconncting you can usualy just leave it alone. On a 4x4 a lot of people with put a pece of wood under the crank pully to keep it from tiping foward and wedge a 2x4 against the head and fire wall to keep from tiping back. Never had to do that on either of the trucks I have dropped the tranny on that had Duals.

alright yall, I am a little nervous

I have all the bolts removed from the flywheel and the engine block....

I have the tranny supported with a jack and a piece of wood...
I suppose that next I am going to remove the cross-member, right?
And the I guess pull the tranny towards the rear of the truck and it should drop right?

come on fella,

at least tell me if thats the right way to do it

I am down to one (stubbern @$$) bolt left on the cross-member

if and when I get that last bolt out thats it right?
just pull the tranny towards the back and watch out right?

Sounds like that should do it. Make sure you have the trans cooler lines loose, or that will really hold you up.

Nothing to be nervous about. Just be aware all the weight is on the front because of the torque converter. The converter will probably fall off if not careful.

Be sure the converter is unbolted from the flexplate.

To keep the converter from falling out, I cut a length of 1/8" x 1" flat steel & drilled holes in it that bolt to a couple of bellhousing holes. Pull the tranny back just a little, then bolt it up in front of the converter.

I got it out....
I am not gonna lie, its was hard to do
probably cause I did it by myself....

I got the new one in, and ran out of time to finish it up
I still need to connect the TV Cable, cooling lines, and
finish the 4th gear lockup relay switch...
