electrical question

Somehow, when the PO put the truck back together, he somehow wired the backup lights to the front turn signals. When I put the truck in reverse, the turn signal in the grill light up. How in the heII is this possible? How do I fix it?

With enough wire, anything is possible.

I hearby claim the first useless, smart-aleck post of this thread.

Nope they do not. Actually when I took the covers off there was tape over the sockets from when the truck was primered. Even with bulbs, they still do not light up.

Most of the time when a lights operation is being affected by another, there is a problem with the ground. One of the two has a bad ground and it is hunting for a ground through another circuit. Good luck.

This is not a grounding issue. The front turn signals light up when I put it in reverse instead of the reverse light coming on. Any ideas?

i think the obvious thing to do would be to track the wiring from the backup light switch.the wire(lt green 18ga) to the backup lamps runs down the driverside frame rail. and if it's missing or not hooked up to the switch than no juice to the socket and the bulb wont lightup

The only problem with that is, the back up light wire is no where near the front turn signal wires at any point.
Forget about the ground probelm too...electricity will take the path of least resistance. If the path of least resistance is on the other end of the truck, then there are some REAL issues going on there.

That's what I was thinking Longhorn, but I thought I would ask anyway. The only thing that I can think would possible be the answer is that maybe the wire was disconnected and ran to the front by mistake when the truck was put back together. I'll have to jack with it when school is out. I'm in the middle of making a movie for a class, and it is taking forever, plus I have finals next week. Thanks for the replies guys.

Well...start at the neutral safety switch, and see if anything has been hacked into the green wires. (I think they are both green on one plug...the other plug will be purple wires) Follow that untill you get to where it goes.

Electricity will take any and all paths available depending on the voltage. The only instance when electricity will not take a path is if there is too much resistance. Heres a bit more info on electricity:

Electricity flows from negative to positive.

Voltage is also known as "difference of potential". In order for electrons to flow, there must be a surplus of electrons on one side of the circuit (negative side since electrons are negativly charged) and a deficiancy of electrons on the other side (positive because of a lack of electrons). Your battery goes dead because there are an equal (or nearly equal) number of electrons on both sides of the battery. No difference of potential = no current flow.

You can, sort of, think of electricity as water in a pipe. Voltage would be like the waters pressure. Current would be how much water is actually moving through the pipe. You can have a million volts but if you have no current you got nothing. Also, you can have one lousy volt, but if that one volt is drawing 10, 20 or 100 amps or more, look out.

</end of pointy headed lecture> I know, I'm a geek.
