Which driveshaft?

I am replacing a 230/3 speed with a 4.8/4L60 from a 2006 2wd regular cab truck.

I currently have both driveshafts (still removing stuff from the donor truck.)

Should I keep the nice, large diameter, lightweight driveshaft from the donor? Can that be shortened?

Or should I just use my existing stock driveshaft?

Is your current driveshaft a single shaft for a shortbed or a 2 pc with a carrier bearing for a longbed?

I'd measure the driveshaft opening in the trailing arm crossmember and see how it compares to the diameter of the shaft from the donor truck.

I'm not sure if the donor truck shaft can be shortened. It's probably aluminum.

Depending on which mounts you use, some guys put the engine at the same distance as the old engine and just reuse their stock driveshaft.

The current driveshaft is a single shaft (shortbed). The new one is aluminum and very light.

Will have to keep reading to see which mounts will allow the same shaft.

You could look into the Dirty Dingo sliders or any adarter plate but you'll have to figure out the amount of set back to put the trans back in the same location.

The alum driveshafts can be shortened . I have shortened 3 of them . I have a small local machine shop that does it for me . Just need to leave it assembled so they can chuck it up in the lathe . Also it is marked so it is clocked the same . No problems with the 3 I have .

So I'll assume I can use my stock driveshaft as is or have it shortened.

I'm about to get rid of the donor truck and will send the aluminum driveshaft with it.

Do I need to keep the slip yoke from the donor truck? Or will the stock driveshaft yoke fit on the 4L60? Or something different altogether?

Saginaw 3 speed yoke will fit the 4l60e i had my oringal shaft shorted and rebalacned

Keep the yoke that goes to the 4l60 transmission and then get a conbo U-Jiont to match the older shaft.
the 2 pc shaft will need to be shorten and tuned
