progress so far, and adive on setting caster and camber

whats the best way to set the caster and camber, as they are bothe set off the shims will one alter the other?

To set the camber you add or remove the same amount of shims from each bolt. To change caster you remove shims from one bolt & add to the other. It won't always come out even so you have to measure it again & change if nesesary.

Have a shop do it. Ask for as much + (positive) caster as they can put in it. You can even put new shafts in the arms and install them a slight off center (lower arm to the front, upper arm to the rear) to give more + caster. This gives the vehicle better stability at high speeds.

Caster, camber, and toe are the 3 elements of an alignment.. Changing one will affect the other two.. It's imperative that the adjustments/settings be made in a certain order.. Caster setting first, then camber.. Complete both these settings on each side before setting the toe-in.. If the person doing the alignment doesn't know the proper procedure, your truck is in the wrong hands..

There are quite a few threads on alignments. Here is one of the better ones in my opinion.
I have some information posted in my WMB thread below with the alignment stuff on post 261. The lead up to that post is on the earlier page.
But more directly to your question. Yes. The caster and camber are set with the shims and one affects the other. Camber is moved by adding or removing shims in pairs from the the front and rear studs. Caster is adjusted by adding or removing shims on individual studs. For instance if you add shims to the front stud only that will cause the top of the spindle to sit farther back moving the caster numbers in a negative direction.

guys thank you, the frame has been tiangulated so should reduce any flex,when going around the bends. i am going to try my own alignments,hence asking the forum for advice before i start, i have worked on race cars, but not done one of these, so its a learning curve, . when i imported the truck from florida, it looked so good, then when all the bondo was removed it was a different story. too much rot to use anytghing as a datum, the whole side of the cills where bondo and expanding metal,no floor, no posts , roof holes etc

Also, something I didn't see mentioned, don't waist your money to have it done till the truck is totally finished. the weight and angle of the stance from the weight will change after fenders, hood, doors and bed are added. Beautiful job so far by the way, we need a 'like' button on the forum...
