Looking for detailed description of a 292 installation

I recently bought a 292 for my 1950 3100 and was wondering if anyone knows of a good "how to" link for installing.
Im really interested in how some folk can squeeze the 292 in and still maintain the stock fan were others have to drop the fan for an electric in front of the radiator because it just wont fit. Also any information on whether to use side mounts or a front mount install like an older 235. I know the engine is designed with side mounts but I have seen where people made a front mount that uses the standard 235 mounting holes up front. I would think an engine with this much torque wouldnt be a good candidate for a front mount.
Anyways if anyone knows of a detailed build for a 292 installation I would appreciate it.

I don't know if it will help with your project, but sniff through my build thread. I had to alter my firewall on my 46 to fit the 292. Looking back I probably could have done it by changing how the radiator mounted into the frame.

Hey Paintman thanks for the link! That was some major "tinkering " you were doing!
I was wondering where you got the engine mounts, did you buy them or fab them or a bit of both? I was going to get my frame primed and then deal with engine placement but I makes more sense to get the driveline set up first like you did. Hey what is the mount on the drivers side behind the engine mount? It looks like a 1 inch bar from the frame to the engine.

The mounts that bolt to the engine are from Chassis engineering. Unfortunately they have gone out of business. You may be able to get them from Tom Lowe at 12bolt.com. The mounts that are welded to the frame to hold the cushions are just some 2 1/2" square stock I had laying around. Not sure what piece you are talking about on the drivers side????????? What #post were you looking at?

I think I need to get my eyess checked! It has nothing to do with th engine. It's behind the mount towards the cab.

If you change your search to a 250 swap you will find a few more hits on this site. The length of the engine is the same but the side mount positions are slightly different.

That would be the rod end (heim joint) for the steering shaft to go through.

Chassis engineering inc is back up and running now I'm not finding the mounts for the 292 in and AD frame though. I bought maybe the last set available when the old owners were closing out before Heidts bought them.

Talked to Chasis Engineering now Heidts and they were really helpful. They didnt have an exact kit for a 292 to 1950 chevy but they cobbled one together. The person I spoke with worked for Chassis Engineering for years and was familiar with what was needed.

The mounts that bolt to the 292 block have one of them offset so the mounts on the frame stay even. It's good to see that you got hold of someone who knows what you needed.
