Stuck odometer

2 weeks ago my odometer rolled over back to zero. I was happy to be back to zero and looking forward to getting to all 9's again.

After just 100 miles, the 1000's and 10,000's numbers stuck and after 2 weeks, I'm at 33,xxx miles. The spacing is visibly off too.

How do I fix this?

You will probably have to get a different speedo. There is a thin plastic piece that holds the number wheels in alignment and my guess is that it has broken. The thin plastic piece is made out of a brittle material on purpose. It is almost impossible to disassemble the speedometer without breaking it. When I re-set mine to 0 miles in the Suburban (new crate motor) I also broke the plastic piece. I used a piece of a plastic container that a slip on seat cover came in. It was the correct thickness and was not brittle. I cut a piece oversize and put the broken pieces together laying on top of the new plastic. I then misted a very light coat of Grey, sandable automotive primer over the top of it. You have to have the paint can far enough away that it doesn't blow the pieces away but it made a perfect outline of the piece on the new plastic & made it easy to cut out.

If you want to try taking it apart and replacing the plastic piece I guess you can't hurt it any..... Read this thread:

Re: Stuck odometer

I bought a new speedometer from GMCPauls a while back. Nice unit if you have to replace yours. Very fast service.
