does anyone know how much it would cost to ship a car from delaware to california? what about a good shipping company? any help would be great. thanks.

When I got quotes from Utah to Chicago for a C10, they were between $800 and $1k.

This was about a month ago.

I have been getting quotes for shipping a car from Kansas City to Sonoma and it has been at best $745. So I am flying out and driving it back.

I shipped another car from CA to FL a couple of years ago and it was something like $850. It seems with higher fuel prices right now it is really tough.

I just got quotes today to ship a truck from Indiana (near Indy) to central Wisconsin and it is like $800!! I almost fell over...its only 300 miles. Needless to say my buddy and I are taking a road trip with the trailer next weekend to pick it up our selves! it will cost me some 200 bucks in gas and 14 hours of time to do it ourselves. Coast to coast will be at least $1000.

i`ve emailed a few places and so far i recieved one qoute for $895. the car i plan on shipping is a 64 chevelle with a built 406 and 4.10 rearend gears. there is no way i`m driving that from delaware to california. i`ll wait to see what the other places give me for a price and go from there. thanks for the replies guys.

Cost me $900 to ship California to Virginia a year and a half ago;
Call the brokers instead of doing the estimate at their web sites;
They may have a truck close by and you can get a better price

i had my lincoln shipped from connecticut to seattle in covered transport a few months ago. i used das (dependable auto shippers) it cost $1550.00.
it took awhile to get it here because there was so much crappy weather back east. when i picked it up the car was pretty filthy. they told me the trailer was one of those ones with the canvas sides and dust and dirt filters up inside. they usually clean them when they come off the trailer but said since mine (convert) had a poor top they didnt want to get it wet inside. i was just happy to finally get my car so i didnt *****, but im still wondering if i paid a premium price for the covered trans and didnt get it.

I had a totally original 72 4x4 shortbox with original factory paint shipped with DAS from Phoinex to Omaha for $650. After three weeks, a side trip to a storage lot in California, it showed up in Omaha. The grille and hood were majorly damaged by the DAS loader somewhere in route while they were tilting the truck on a ramp. DAS would not pay a dime for their driver's error since I had declined their $75 insurance charge. I had State Farm insurance which would cover fire, theft or weather damage and I thought DAS was responsible for the compentcy of their employees. Think Not as I know first hand. This truck is in perfect driving condition too with brakes and all. The main reason I also declined their coverage was their insurance contract stated DAS had total salvage rights in the event of a claim and I wanted nothing uncontrolable to rights to my 72.
I would never use DAS to haul my garbage to the landfill and their service sucks. They give you no customer service when it comes to a claim but a huge run around game with no satisfaction. I'm out $1000 damage to a virgin original 72 and I paid them up front $650 for the ride.

I second the vote on DAS (Dependable Auto Shippers). I shipped two from Mississippi to Ohio when moving. They were prompt, careful, and ON-TIME.

I also agree with the others....average coast to coast is going to be 1200-1600 bucks. OUCH

There is a website where you can read all the reports people file on auto transport companies. I will tell you now there are some real horror stories in there. I contacted:

and they told me about the website. A AAATransport gave me an excellent price to move a car from Seattle to Phoenix (1500 miles) $865. I would certainly call them and ask about the website "car transport watch" or something like that. Read the details about the car moving companies, how long they have been in business and if they are brokers or movers that own their own trucks. It is like a Consumer Reports on these companies. The reviews are written by people that have had both good and bad experiences. Good luck!

I shipped mine in January from Kansas to Washington for like $870. I used Aires Auto Transport and was happy with there service.

I originally tried using Crossover Transport. I would not use them. If the way they run there business is any indication of how they ship your vehicle, it wouldn't be a good thing.

thanks for all of the replies guys. i don`t know what i`m going to do or who i will use but i do know from the qoutes i`ve recieved so far that it`s going to be about $1,000 no matter who i use. cc bob suggested renting a u-haul and a trailer and i`ll look into that. it will take about a week to drive back to cali from delaware but it might be the cheapest route. thanks again everyone.

My dad and I have shipped cars using horseless carrage...... great guys to deal with! never had a problem with them. we also tryed out the rail freight once.... yeah dont do that, car came to us with bullet holes in it and broken glass, the freight guy said it was common for people in the south (no offence to people in the south) to shoot the cars as they pass through a large feild or by a farm. that was also not in an inclosed rail car. Best of luck shipping it.... if i had some time off i would offer to drive it to you, wouldnt garentee the tires to be good when done but could get you the car

Right now with the fuel prices the way they are most of the company's have really jacked their prices way up....

I've used DAS before with good luck but now they want more to ship a vehicle from Texas than I paid for shipping across the US a year ago...

I just used DAS to ship from Idaho to Boston, terminal to terminal.....cost was $920......took 17 days vs a quoted 14 day estimate.

But something did happen to the vehicle on the way, all four bolts that attach the transfer case adaptor to the tranny had baked out and stripped, so the trans fluid leaked out the crack created at the back of the trans.........I put longer bolts in and called it a day.......either they beat on the blazer or let it idle for hours, or they backed out from being on the transporter.......
