This is happening a lot lately. Another scam is emails from the seller off Ebay asking for the money on the item you won when they are not really the seller.
I know several guys who deal a lot with Paypal and decided to set a small bank account strictly for use with Paypal so in the event something did happen the bad guy would not easily be able to access you main account. |

Jim, when you drag your mouse over the link (but don't press the button) see what link it gives at the bottom of the screen. Hope everything is ok for you!. I setup a seperate account at a different bank strictly for Paypal like crustysarge did.

According to PayPal, if you get ANY e-mail that starts with "Dear PayPal Member..." or "Dear PayPal User..." it is not them. They will ALWAYS use your FIRST AND LAST NAME....."Dear John Smith..." I also set up a seperate account strictly for internet purchases that only has the amount I am about to purchase with deposited into it the same day. Usually runs a balance of a few cents.

yeah I saw one for Paypal and Ebay both very good duplicates. One other thing to look for is in the address if you are inputing card info or any other important info the link will be secure the address is https// instead of just http// take a look if the s isnt there it is a fake!
Good luck. Dave

Tip: Folks, always look at the bottom of the browser in the status bar to see where the link is going. If it does not say who it is then it's more than likely a bogus link.

Any suspect mail from Ebay or Paypal should be forwarded to the following:
Ebay - spoof@ebay.com Paypal - spoof@paypal.com This both allows them to verify and track the mail. If it will help rid the internet of hackers and thieves, I'm all for it!

I've seen those too just ignore them, The people on this board tipped me to the idea of having a seperate account for Paypal. I set up a free checking account at Washington Mutual just for selling and buying.Works great and if it gets compromised no big problem.
Good Luck

I had the same email come in and was a little suspicious so I right clicked and looked in the options and saw it did not come from the paypal server. I had another real paypal message from an item I just bought and also checked the server routing and it came from the actual paypal server. I then went to IE and entered paypal thru my saved shortcut. When I logged into my account, there was not notice of having any account problems. Besides, I didn't have a balance and it showed the last transaction correctly. Whenever I get emails from any online company, I always check the server routing. If it comes from a bunch of odd named servers, it is probably a scam.

You can't be to careful these days. I also keep a separate bank account for pay pal and a separate credit card for all online transactions. It makes it easier to monitor.

I got the same e-mail and sent it to Pay-pal for verification and haven't heard back from them yet.

I was told to never go to pay pal or ebay through an email link. That you should go to them by using your favorites list or typing the website address and then log on to you account. And if something is wrong you can find out there.

I am more afraid of paypal than the other thieves. Totally unregulated banks scare the hell out of me. After being a victim of identity theft, local police said I would have to be an idiot to give paypal any checking account number, period,so I canceled my paypal account and have not missed it.
