Daughter Accident...need Grill recommendations

Well, daughter rear ended a CRV yeasterday. Everyone is OK, but she is still a little scared to get back in to drive. Looking at the Blazer, amazed how well it handled it compared to the CRV.

So, need to replace the grill. Any good sources out there?

First, glad everybody is ok.

Second, are you sure they were in the same accident?

I would guess LMC, but I think they do have a charge for oversize parts. I do see them on craigslist quite often.

You should be able to find someone in your area parting out a suburban the right year. Seems like there is quite a few of them in your area. Have you checked the you pull it yard there? When I went to that one there were quite a few squares.

The squares are getting harder and harder to find at the junkyard. I go out on a monthly basis and it's pretty slim pickin's. A few weeks ago a 90 suburban came in. Within a few hours the whole front end was gone (including bumpers). I grabbed the hood. Other than that, slim.

I can either find another used one that's weathered pretty good or just get a nice, new one (provided the fit and finish are decent).

Yeah, no squares around here. Even the wrecking yards do not want to deal with them due to the new california laws surrounding wrecking yards and their waste. The squares now are 30+ years old. The money is in the newer stuff. Why mess with anything from the past century?

In restoring my 91 Suburban, I have tried LMC, Truck Shop and Classic Industries. I got the front grill from Classic Industries and have been real happy. I have limited my shopping at the Truck Stop to only items they have that Classic doesn't carry.

Cool. I've used Classic Industries in the past as well....so I just placed an order. Should be here maybe by end of the week. I'll let you all know how they look.

DOH...wish I saw this earlier.
I have real nice factory Chevy grille and bezels.
The repo grilles have a big square where the bow tie goes.
It's not going anywhere so if you decide you don't like the repo, let me know.

Are they new or used? I got the bow tie separate but assumed it would look correctly. I might be able to cancel......PM me.

Its a used one. My NOS ones are all gone.
And it's a freebie.
No cracks or anything else.
It'll take a week or two to get to it.
Sitting in my storage in another part of town.
Cover the shipping and all yours.

Ha! Close to 30yr of buying parts and parting out 40 plus K5s, you end up with some junk.

Yea, was planning on hitting a junkyard and hopefully find one of those this weekend. Still haven't popped the hood. Oh, and the horn doesn't work. My daughter just begged me to put in a Dukes of Hazzard horn. That's not happening!!

Glad your daughter and everyone else is ok, but after looking at the pictures, it makes me feel that much better as to why I just put my 16 yrs daughter in a 1999 Ford F250, CC, 4x4, 7.3 diesel as a new driver.

When you have, Size, Weight and Height on your side, most of the time you have a better chance of walking away.

glad shes ok....metal can be fixed...lmc is now an authorized chevy supplier...meaning they have grills with the bowtie in them...not sure if they have one that fits yours or not...

That should do the trick....nice beast!

I am pleasantly surprised how well it did in a crash. Was thinking newer cars all have airbags, crumple zones, etc....but being higher and heavier really did help!

My other two daughters are in a Subaru Crosstrek and Nissan Xterra. Wondering a bit on the Subaru.

The downside with wrecks in older vehicles that don't have all the technology of airbags, crumple zones, etc. is that they were not made to absorb the impact. What this means is that more of it is transferred into the occupant(s) - which obviously is a bad thing. Cars are just made to be more disposable nowadays as a trade off to save lives/injury.

Did a little repair. Core support wasn't as bad as I thought. Got a floor jack and 2x4....did some bending. Looks pretty good actually! I went and got 2 other core supports assuming mine was bad, but once I popped the hood, it didn't make sense to remove the whole thing. I'd say it's 90-95% in correct position.

While at the junkyard, there was a broken grill (the top extended tabs snapped off), but they sold it to me for $20. I did just re-use my outside grill sections for now. Also got some new blinker assemblies to freshen it up a touch.

Not bad for less than $100 repair! Light Blue hood is in barn. Once I paint, I'll swap that over.

I did get a new steering shaft from Borgensen. Just good to have a fresh one. That was $200 though.

First and foremost, I am glade everyone is OK!
My kids have asked me numerous times if we are safe in our Suburban.
I explain it to them this way: take a brick, then take an empty aluminum can. crash them into each other and see which one has more damage.
the suburban = brick most modern cars =aluminum can.

This post proved my point!
