Holy Crap Moment, Lets hear them

So I pulled my 79 sport out of the garage last night for a bath. Noticed a good drip. Fuel spraying from the bottom of my filter, all over. I normally jump in and go for a ride. This is an 8 year frame off build with 4,000 miles on it. Imagine what would have happened if I took her out for a normal drive. Thank good I noticed this, otherwise, I think I would have lost her to a little fire.

Same thing happened to me this week, but mine was back where the tank is. One of the lines is rusted, or hose is dry rotted. I thought the same thing since it was leaking less than an inch from the exhaust pipes. Going to have it hauled somewhere to get it fixed.

Off the top of my head - sheared the bolts that hold the steering box onto the frame, stripped the splines off the sector shaft of different box just before going down a windy hill, I know there are more (have had the truck for almost 20 years), just don’t think of them right now.

I was getting gas in my 83 last week and a guy walked out of the gas station and said 'Man you got something leaking bad under your front end."

I expected to see a leaking radiator or hose, but opened the hood to find the fuel pump shooting two shots of gas every second onto the bottom of the radiator.

I was fixing to drive 30 miles to work, with fuel spraying all over the engine bay.

Put a new fuel pump, rubber lines, and filter on last weekend. Back in business.

I think that's normal for these things. Same with mine. My battery was dead so jumped it and pulled it outside, for the heck of it I decided to leave it running and check under the hood and gas was leaking out of the rubber hose where it meets the filter. Been meaning to put a metal one under the truck inside the frame like a newer truck.

You need new fuel hose section for the filter every year to two yr if lucky. But should be checked ever year cracks hardness, should be soft
line to sending unit, frame to pump, fuel filter pump, pump to can. The fuel has 10% ethanol eat and dry's out old rubber more so on any rubbers not made work with ethanol

81/ light 3/4 ton, hauled a load of scrap, waay over GVW. Like 2 tons over. Drove nice and slow, was a little light on the front but almost all straight roads. Got close to the yard, hit a bump, both front wheels came off the ground, rear frame hit the ground(no bumper), pushed the front back down. Apparently the center of gravity was right at the rear wheels.
Similar with an overload of hay, only a lot of S curves, would have to let off the gas and brake slightly to get enough weight on the front for the tires to bite and turn. Was pretty exciting the first corner it happened on, hit the brakes and turned very suddenly.
Never tried that many bales again.

Recently took my 67 GMC for a spin, it was sitting for quite some time (a year or two) and I just wanted to run it a bit and move it to the other side of the parking lot where I keep it. First I noticed that the fuel line was rotted and spraying in the engine bay, so I fixed that and felt quite clever. Good thing I checked that, I thought. Its a three on the tree, I put it in gear and away I went.

I did a few turns around the parking lot, put into second, then third, picked up speed, then felt like maybe I was going a bit fast for a parking lot, even one that was deserted. Went to step on the brakes and... there were none, my foot went all the way to the floor.

Fortunately, this is virtually the only vehicle I own with a functioning emergency brake: although I didn't know that until I yanked it. After this experience, I am not putting off replacing e-brakes ever again.

about 3-4 years ago I went out to the garage to work on my 72 short bed .. laid on the creeper went to roll under the truck and then seen about a 14" baby rattler about 4-5 feet away. jumped up ..... grabbed the shovel and killed it. those little guys don't rattle!!!

Life can be scary. Years ago before I did my build this was my daily driver. Amazing how light the rear end is on these old trucks. Hit the brakes in the rain, started to fishtail, went all the way around across a 4 lane road through a stop light and stopped 5' from a 10' deep ditch. Changed my shorts and headed home
