5.3 knock/cam sensor not connected

I had done one of this swaps about 10 yea4s ago, however I recently bought a truck that swap was done by someone else.while it seems like they put some quality stuff as headers, trans controller, hid the wires etc etc , i removed the intake today and i notice the sensor on the rear of the engine is not connected nor it was connected ever since there is no wire connector going to it. The truck runs very good and strong but how is this possible? The harness is not hooked up to a oem ecm. Instead it has a aftermarket engine module, but I thought the sensor was needed for the engine to actually run. Any ideas

Depends on what you mean by aftermarket engine module. Physically an LS motor can run without any of its sensors, it just wouldn't have fuel or spark control. Things like Megasquirt will run a different cam sensor. Without cam sensor reference it would just fire all the coils simultaneously

LS... sensor at the back of the engine. Sounds like oil psi.. ECU doesn't need it. Take a picture and post it

Re: 5.3 knock/cam sensor not connected

I found out the secret last night, the previous owner or whoever swapped the engine, actually had the sensor re located to the front timing gear/chain cover.

Re: 5.3 knock/cam sensor not connected

That’s the valve lifter oil manifold connector it is what is used to activate the dod lifters. I assume they tuned it not to use them and just didn’t swap the covers out. Maybe it still has all the active lifters in the engine
