New to me 1968 GMC

Just bought this a couple of weeks ago to use for my shop truck/daily driver. 350/350, a/c cab. Solid truck, no rust in typical areas. Will post more pics soon.

Thank you for everyone involved with this forum. It’s been a lot of help in preparing to purchase one of these trucks, as well as learning more about the truck I bought.

I like it! Super good color too! Uhh, but... 67,68 ~should~ have a slant nose. Probably not a big deal at all as the truck you have there is just fine. Maybe a previous owner put on a 69-72 front clip? Many of us have done it the other way around enough times it'd be good to see someone do it this way for once!

Thank you for the compliments on the truck. Yes, it’s a ‘68 (by VIN and title), but you’re correct in identifying the later hood (fenders).

It’s had some work done: cut down frame for short bed, rockers replaced, later 350/350 drivetrain, later steering column, and who knows what else. However, different than a lot of the trucks I’ve looked at, it retains it’s general stock appearance and the “modifications” to the truck appear to have been performed correctly.

I’m planning some modifications to the truck myself. Phase 1 will start in a couple of weeks, to include: install “van” tilt column, shorten for better ergonomics, and remove B&M floor shifter, install Classic Auto Air’s “Perfect Fit” system, install front sway bar, install CraftTec bed cover and install Second Skin on the floor and new carpet.

Phase 2 will involve lowering the truck some and upgrading to front disc brakes and installing 700r4 transmission along with different wheels and tires.

Phase 3 will be upgrading the interior with leather seat, door panels and headliner.

I’m sure there will be additional upgrades/mods, because they’re never finished, right? However, nothing major because the goal is a solid daily driver that is a positive representative of my upholstery business.

Kinda...it kicks on and blows “cool” air, not cold (full of refrigerant). It has the fittings to indicate it’s been changed to 134a, but nothing else has been changed. Instead of spending money on a condenser, lines, having POA valve calibrated, etc, and still be left w/antiquated system (w/my luck the compressor would be next), not to mention keeping up with vacuum operated air doors and seals, I decided to put that money towards the upgrade.

This will be my daily driver and it’s hot here in OK. I don’t want issues with the a/c in the middle of the summer.

Very nice truck. I think the disc brake upgrade is one of the best things you can do for these trucks.

Good looking rig you have there .

Remember to be gentle when removing the old stock AC bits and bobs, some are after these, it took me a while to find everything .

Thank you...I plan to put the old system up for sale. The Classic Auto Air folks told me they would buy the POA valve.
